My Life on the River Severn - by Local man Chris Witts

Taking place on

Chris’s career began at the tender age of 16 when he joined John Harker Ltd as a deckhand on tanker barges, taking on the role of ‘lad’ - While on his second boat he was out in thick fog off Sharpness and witnessed the Severn Bridge Disaster, when it was hit by two fuel tankers, these two vessels ignited, setting the River Severn alight, 64 years later these wrecks are still visible in the river today.

Chris is a man with a passion about the River Severn which has taken him from deckhand to successful publisher, and in this talk he will take us on that journey of life on the River.
